Stoudt’s Big Beer
November 27, 2007
For those who might have missed the Raven tasting and for those of you who didn’t…there is a tasting of Stoudt’s “big beers” at Dawsons this Friday Nov. 30th. We will be sampling the Fat Dog Stout, Double IPA and Triple. All of which taste every bit as good as their selected name suggests. Come by between 4 and 7 pm and try an incredible malty, rich stout, a hop lovers double and/or a belguim style triple. And then post what you think of them here.

Tasting The Raven
November 13, 2007
Free tasting of The Raven Lager from 4-7 at Dawsons this Friday evening. The Raven is one of the deepest and richest tasting lagers made. It was created to be well liked by both lager and ale drinkers and is served at the US Embassy in Bonn, Germany. No comment on the football team.
Tasty Winter Brews
November 9, 2007
As the Holiday season approaches, the back of the store gets a tad crowded. We don’t really mind though, some old favorites roll into town: Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale, Magic Hat Roxy Rolles, Clay Pipe Pursuit of Happiness, Snow Goose and over 30 other tasty beers that are unique to this winter season.
First to show up on our doorstep like carolers singing Bob and Dougs 12 Beers of Christmas was Winter Welcome by Samuel Smith. This consistent treat from the U.K. tastes just the way you remember it from last year; clean, lightly hopped and smooth. Available in 4 packs of 12 oz. bottles or 22 oz. singles allowing them to fit in with whatever type of holiday celebration you are going to this year.
J.W.Lees state on their website they use “no half measures or half baked ideas, just quality all the way” and then further explain that they will brew a personal batch just for you, using your own recipe. Check it out for yourself. When their 2007 Harvest Ale touches your mouth, magic happens. The malt explodes leaving a deep, oak, hop finish that might even remind you a bit of good bourbon. It’s tremendous.
Winter Storm brewed in Baltimore by Clipper City is also great. They call this Heavy Seas Category 5 Ale “an original”. It is an Imperial ESB with loads of malt and even more amounts of hops, and 7.5% alcohol by volume. The hops will chill your throat while the malts warm your soul.
Pop the cap off of a Snow Goose and let Winter Ale meet your taste buds. Made with rich amounts of barley and seasonal sized hints of holiday spices, this is the one that should make Wild Goose most proud. Classy enough for a campfire, tree trimming party, office gathering or even turkey dinner at the in-laws.
As usual, these and others are available at Dawson’s Liquors, and there are many more to come; it’s not even turkey day yet. Please comment with your thoughts on these brews and any others that have been striking your fancy.
Peace.
